Collapse in financial strength

by Jolyon on 11 September, 2006

Canadian Underwriter reports today that financial strength in the global RI market has fallen over the past 5 years, per S&P.

Factors include:

  • withdrawal by broad-based companies from the RI arena
  • earnings underperformance
  • volatility of the market

> It seems that industry risk is set to remain high for property/casualty reinsurance, driven by issues that are unlikely to improve materially in the years to come”

says S&P analyst Laline Carvalho.

On the upside, apparently, S&P see improvements in enterprise-level risk management.
