After a stint as European City of Culture (OK, a few years back now), Glasgow is now transforming itself into International City of Finance Including Reinsurance. A team from Glasgow City Council has been touting the city’s benefits as a hub of financial excellence, though some might think it a trifle optimistic to say that this would “would put Glasgow up as a rival centre to Lloyd’s of London, New York, Bermuda and Dublin.”
A bit like my old girlfriend, Jane, hoping to pass herself off as an International Woman of Mystery. She came from Dundee and did a year off in Nuremburg, but somehow that just didn’t really bring the required cachet…
