So it’s not just Florida that’s feeling the pain. According to [this report](http://news.moneycentral.msn.com/provider/providerarticle.asp?feed=AP&Date=20060621&ID=5815703), rates for hurricane/meteorological risks will increase by up to 400% in Mexico this year.
Many had simply not appreciated the exposures to such losses: Emily, Stan and Wilma caused USD 2.27bn of insured losses compared to the previous record year of 2002, when Isidore and Kenna cost about USD 440m. Reinsurance picked up about 90% of those.
About 70% of Mexican carriers have switched to a 1/7 renewal season. Deep joy. When I was at [the Broker Formerly Known as Greig Fester](http://www.benfieldgroup.com/regions+and+countries/southamerica/index.htm) in the mid-80s, about 85% of the renwewals were done at 1/1, with a handful at 1/7 and even fewer at 1/4. So one was manic for November, December and January, but really scratching around for work in August and September.
